Can you leave bag on tour bus - RS 16 Day Germany, SW, Aus Tour

Hello: My wife and I are traveling to Germany, Switzerland and Austria with RS Tour in September.

We plan on three days hiking on the trip so we are going to the trouble of bringing our old and comfortable hiking boots and a day pack for food and drink and ponchos. The other 13 days we will not use these items. I was thinking about purchasing another RS classic back door bag. We would use is as a third bag for the above items. The plan would be to check the 3rd bag on the air plane. We could also avoid the issue of carrying on liquids and put them in the 3rd bag.

Question for those of you who have gone on the 16 day tour – Is it possible to leave a bag on the bus overnight? Also, are there lockers to temporarily check bags at Kleine Scheidegg?

Thanks, Jim (strong and able to carry 2 bags – and maybe stupid?)

Jim,
I went on the RS 14 day Best of Europe tour last year and even though the rule was one carry-on size bag and one day pack, it was not strictly enforced. It is mainly whatever you are willing to carry from the bus to your hotel, which sometimes can be a few blocks and up stairs. After a few days, tourmates had accumulated souvenirs and the bus driver allowed them to store in the "deep storage" area in the baggage area under the bus. You may be able to do this with your third bag and pull it out when you need it.

I am going on the same tour in 2008 and from what I have read you can only bring one carry-on each. Also, you can bring one day pack each.

Hi Jim:

I went on this trip last year and you can leave a bag on the bus for the whole trip if need be. The bus has deep storage which is locked all the times. (great place to store the stuff you will buy) When you get to the areas where you need your hiking gear, just take the bag off the bus. If you are staying in Murren, Switzerland the bags go up by gondola. You may have to carry them to your hotel. If you are planning on hiking in Hallstadt, you will have to roll or carry them about a half a mile from the bus parking to the hotel. Then up the stairs at the hotel. We had a couple that did the same thing and brought a third bag and had no trouble.

I don't know about storing bags at Kleine-Scheidgg, we went to the Schilthorn and that gondola leaves from Murren.

You will love this trip.!!!!
