I must have started too late. We wanted to go from there to Paris where we have reservations starting 1/1/08. Any alternate suggestions in that area?
Most of the hotels in that region close down until the skiing season starts up later in January. While not as scenic, you are probably going to have to settle for Interlaken.
Hi,
Try the Hotel Eiger in Wengen.
If not avail, try others in Wengen, Murren, and Grindelwald. Shame to stay in Interlaken (my opinion).
Paul
The Hotel Eiger is also closed that time of the year. There probably are rooms available in Grindelwald. But I find Grindelwald to be a very snooty overpriced resort town. If given to choice I'd rather stay in Interlaken where most things are cheaper.
From my memory most of the hotels reopen mid December to cater for the early skiers (ski season kind of satrts Dec 1 depending on snow) and the Xmas tourists.
Look at the accommodation options on http://muerren.ch/start-e.htm for Murren most of the linked sites have availability calanders.
I think your problem may be that many are booked by people taking the Xmas/New Year break, rather than the hotels still being closed for Zwischensaison (between season or off season depending on your translator).
A slightly more obscure option might be http://www.hotel-stechelberg.ch in Stechelberg (about 15 minutes by bus along the valley from Lauterbrunnen) close to the cable car to Gimmelwald/Murren/Schilthorn
Try the Valley Hostel in Lauterbrunnen. We stayed there and was VERY pleased.
Last summer we stayed at the Caprice in Wengen. It had the most beautiful views of the mountains, a fantastic restaurant, and extremely nice staff-- we were bumped up into the suites and only paid for the standard double as they were vacant. I just checked and they open for the season on Dec. 21st. Good luck!

In October we stayed in Lauterbrunnen which was a great location to base our day trips to the different peaks. I think our hotel is open in January. Hotel Staubbach.
