Can't decide which airport in paris to fly into!

I'm flying from Ireland to Paris in September. I have been to paris , only last year. Last year we flew into Beauvais and got the bus to Porte Maillote and then got the metro to our hotel. This year I'm thinking would we be better off flying into CDG. We're staying in Montmartre. I've only just found out that we could get a train right beside CDG.
I'm in two minds however which option to take as there is €150 of a difference in fares, CDG being the more expensive option. But I'm thinking about the 1hour bus ride into Porte Maillote, then two metro transfers to Montmartre.
Can anyone who's flown into CDG before let me know if it'd be worth the extra expense or will we have to make numerous metro changes this way too?
Thanks.

Ellen....for 150 Euro savings, I'd fly into Beauvais, as long as you watch Ryanair's checkin times, and baggage rules...I think they've gotten even tighter since you travelled last year. It's not a long way from Tipperary to Beavais, so it's not like you'd be grouchy after a long overseas flight like us :) Once you're at Porte Maillot, you're a little farther by metro from, say, the Pigalle stop than from Gare du Nord (line 1 two stops down to Etoile, then line 2 eight stops to Pigalle)....but 150 extra Euro would be worth it to me. Total trip from CDG to Pigalle would be about 50 minutes...from Porte Maillot to Pigalle would be about 20 minutes to add onto your bus trip from Beauvais.

Saving 150 euros sounds good to me and you've already trained yourself to deal with the Beauvais method. Getting from Port Maillot to Montmarte via metro will be fine though i don't know your adress, so don't know how many stops. The hour on the bus will give you time to relax..or worry..Flying into CDG, you'll still have to payfor and find the into the city transport. The hours of your flights might be a facture re: arrival and departures..but since you know cute little Beauvais i'd stick with that.

Thanks guys
I'm a little clearer now. I just heard so many people say that they'd never fly into Beauvais again when CDG is so much more central and you can buy your museum passesd there too. But for a short little metro trip into Paris we can buy them in the louvre also.

Ellen...I'm one of those who avoid Beauvais if at all possible. But, hey....for 150 Euro......!

Ellen,

you have to decide how much what is more valuable for YOU - to save an extra 50 minutes vs saving 150 Euro. If I'd be staying in Paris for just 2 days, let's say, than the extra time might be worth it to me more than if I'd planned to spend 2 weeks.

When I planned my last trip to Europe I had the choice of saving 100 Euro by transferring planes in Heathrow vs transferring in Frankfurt. Considering that I was travelling as a single parent with 2 kids I opted for Frankfurt. If I had been travelling by myself I would have opted for Heathrow even though it's known to be much more likely to cause problems with delays, lost luggage etc.

Luckily, Beatrix, those issues of luggage transfer won't enter into the deliberations because this'll be a direct flight. And Ellen may even be better off, since there's less chance of luggage delay or misplacement at Beauvais, since it's a much smaller airport.

Norm,

I used Heathrow vs Frankfurt only as an example that the choice of airports depends on lots of personal factors that can change from flight to flight.

Yes Beatrix, I understand that...and I'm sure Ellen does too. All I was trying to point out was that the factors you mention don't relate here, except for the luggage issue, which may end up being to her benefit at Beauvais.

Hi again guys, been thinking it over all day, had a look at the two websites again. Ryanair into Beauvais vs Aerlingus into CDG.
If we go to Beauvais we won't arrive till 5.30 in the evening so that means we probably won't get to our hotel till 7.30 ish. If we go into CDG we arrive at 1pm in the afternoon. Mmm, I think a whole afternoon in Paris is worth any money. Or maybe I'm just in love with Paris.

Good point.....adding an extra afternoon to your holiday is a good expenditure of 150 Euro....especially if you're staying a short time. I'm surprised Aer Lingus can't give you a better rate than that. Have you looked at earlier flights that may connect thru London on Aer Lingus or any of the other airlines, like easyjet or BMI?

Good idea , I'll look into that. I don't know why I didn't think of it before.
This year we flew to Spain on a family holiday with our four children and changed flights in London which saved us €500 in total.
I can't wait till my other guys are old enough to appreciate Paris too. My daughter came with me last year and as a 15yr old I was worried she'd find it boring, but she loved it and said lol! ''I'm moving here when I'm old enough''. It's good to dream, she's so jealous that it's just me and her dad going this year, it's an aniversary treat for ourselves.
