I will be traveling to Paris next week. I was wondering if I could use my magnetic strip American credit or debit cards to buy Metro tickets there. Will they work in the automated machines? Howabout at a manned ticket booth?

Magnetic strip cards won't work in the automatic machines, I'm not certain about the ticket windows.

They may require a minimum € purchase to process a credit/debit card charge just for metro tickets. Many (most?) of the metro stations have eliminated manned booths altogether...The automated machines WILL accept bills and coins...If you're planning to purchase them at the airport, then yes, I have In The Past purchased metro and RER tickets at CDG with a credit card.
