Can I join a tour at the Louvre?

Hi, back for more tips-we depart in 8 days to Paris. We have our Paris Pass, 1) do we just walk to the front of a line and flash the pass or is there a separate line for pass holders at museums and 2) we are not educated in art history- can we pay to join a tour group? Do they offer unscheduled tours for groups or are you on your own?

Rick, The Louvre has a great website.
http://www.louvre.fr/llv/commun/home.jsp?bmLocale=en.

Under the Visit tab click on Location & Entrances for details on entrance procedures. Also under the Visit tab click on Aids & Ammenities for info on audioguides. Under the Activities tab you will find info on guided tours. Under the Museum tab you will find virtual tours that might help you plan your visit.
Hope this helps.

Oh Carole, you are such an angel. Thank you. I was at the website last week but I missed all of these links you have suggested. Thanks.

I always get the audioguides,, I love just wandering around and if I see something interesting,, and see it is lucky enough to have the "code" by it,, clicking on the audioguide. Its only 4 euros to rent.

The Louvre website has floorplans and self-guided walking tours (Thematic Trails) that can be downloaded. One of the tours is "From Palace to Museum" which, while it does a bit of backtracking, takes you past all the major works in the museum (without describing them).

I used Rick's audio guide in June and found it difficult/confusing, because of some major rearrangements of exhibits. I regretted not renting the Louvre's audio guide.
