Can anyone suggest a town to stay at between Annecy and Lyon?

In September, my wife and I are staying at Annecy for a few days and then taking the train to Lyon (to stay and then to fly home). Can anyone recommend a town between Annecy and Lyon (on the train line) that would be good for a 1-2 day stay? Thanks in advance---I appreciate it. This helpline is really great and the Rick Steves products are so great. Thanks again.

I'm with Steve. I went the other way and spent time in Chamonix and Annecy. I really liked them both. My sister swears, however, that Lyon itself is interesting.
