We are travelling to Bordeaux in early September and will be staying just two nights there. I have found several listings for hotels in my Cadogan guide but not alot of information about what it's like to stay there. Can anyone recommend someplace reasonable, quiet, and comfortable? Merci!
Last summer I stayed in the Bordeaux Ibis hotel for three nights. It's about 500 meters from the train station, and also within walking distance of a good chunk of the city (including the main square and the waterfront cafes).
The hotel has its own small bar, one computer for internet access, a parking garage, and a mess area for eating breakfast (and perhaps other meals, but I used it only for my morning meal).
The hotel worked fine for me, a single guy who was on the way to Spain for the bulk of my holiday. But I wouldn't call it a slice of traditional french culture. It's more of a business-type hotel, with not a lot of frills. I don't recall a lot of noise, but be advised that this particular hotel isn't in the most refined part of Bordeaux.
Bordeaux is a city of 750,000 people, thus "quiet" cannot be guaranteed, but we can talk about reasonable and comfortable. Here are some: Hotel Continental, an 18th C mansionHotel Presse, in the pedestrian shopping quarter.
