Can't miss restaurant Paris

What restaurant would you recommend to a first timer couple in Paris who has 24 hrs? No preference on arrond., preferably not a Michelin type restaurant($$$$$) but besides that, not too concerned with price. Looking for best combination of food, wine, ambience, etc. Thanks for any and all suggestions. Bill

Violon d'Ingres on Rue St Dominique could be your place. Christian Constant is the chef and has Cafe Constant also near on the same street. These would be in the Eiffel Tower area. Les Bouquinistes on Rue St Augustin near the Seine and opposite Notre Dame is also very nice. Bofinger near the Bastille area is popular and beautiful but we found it to be noisy with rushed service and food not fabulous. So many choices & so little time...

Albion, 1 block south of Poissonniere Metro stop. Down side, not open Sat or Sun. Reservations highly recommended.

Bill: Try the blog of David Lebovitz. Mr. Lebovitz is an American expat living in Paris and if you click through his website you will find loads of great Paris restaurant recommendations - everything from street food to haute cuisine. Just google his name and you will find it. Fair warning - his website is addictive. Have fun.

Alain Ducasse's place in the Plaza Athenee. You'll probably need a reservation.

Le Procope in the 6th Arr. off St. Germain de Pres. Paris' first public cafe, opened in 1686, meeting place of French Revolutionists (see the Wikipedia entry for more info). I was leary about eating here (at a friend's suggestion) b/c often these "well-known" places can be expensive and not that great. But I was very pleasantly surprised. Decor is very 18th century grand, but it's not stuffy. The Coq au Vin was incredible, served in a beautiful copper dish that I tracked down in a kitchen store (WAY too expensive). And for lunch the meal was around 26 euros, not bad for a wonderful meal in an historic resto. Check out the gold toilet in the ladies room! I have many other suggestions if you want to PM me. Bon appetit!
