Which site is the best in September? We love to be close to the center of activities and have a tour booked from Bayeux for our first day. Our second day is open. Specific hotels recommended would be great. Should we drive from Normandy to Lille to arrive at Brussels or take the train to Paris?
Thank you. It appears to be a lovely town while Caen seems more prone to business travelers. FYI" the Churchill is full for our September dates; do you know the Reine Mathilde?
Holly, My suggestion would be to stay in Bayeux. It's a wonderful smaller town, very walkable and a nice "character". While there you could also visit the famous Bayeux Tapestry. It would help to have some further information on what type of Hotels you're looking for (ie: comfort level, price, etc.). You might have a look at Hotel Churchill, as it's right in town and a convenient place for meeting the tour operators. Happy travels!
You might also try Hotel de St. Croix. Very lovely, with reasonable rates and fabulous breakfast. Our room had a huge bed, with an equally large bathroom and the hostess couldn't have been nicer, even though our French was pretty much non-existent. http://www.hotel-de-sainte-croix.com/index.php?page=single_article&name=accueil
Holly, I enthusiastically recommend the Hotel d'Argouges in Bayeux. I loved the hotel and the town.
Many thanks but that hotel is busy for our stay in September. The Reine Mathilde is our choice.
Holly, I gather you now have a Hotel booked? I was going to suggest a smaller Hotel right on the main square. Depending on what comfort level and prices you want, I would highly recommend Hotel Mogador. The rooms are somewhat basic but comfortable and the owners are wonderful. As I recall, it's not far from Hotel Churchill. Cheers!
