Can anyone help us with the city of Cadiz? We would like to visit for a few days. Is it worth the trip?
Any cool places to stay and to eat?

Probably not for a few days. It's more of a place to duck into and look around for a half day. For the first timer in the south of Spain, the more eastern cities would probably hold more interest. For eating try the little sea snails. Sometimes hard to find "carcoles", but they're great.

The city itself is definitely worth a day (camera obscura, the old town, kite beach). The 2nd day I would take the ferry boat to Jerez de la Frontera which is definitely worth another day. Most Arab old town in Spain (and probably in all of Europe). Also Cadiz makes for a good hub to visit Gibraltar and even Northern Morocco for a day. I love the Cadiz/Jerez area...
