My husband and I will have an afternoon and evening to spend on this stretch of coast. Any opinions about which village would be a better place to spend the night? Thank you.

Collioure since it's a little less visited and not quite as crowded. I also think it's the more attractive of the two.
If you're driving up from Barcelona, or down from Montpellier, you might want to stop at one for a couple of hours and go on to the other for the evening. They're only about an hour and a half apart and three hours is plenty to see the sights in either one.

I've never been to Cadaques, but I've been to Collioure -- not over night, but for the day -- and I can tell you it is very charming and someplace where I would like to spend more time. Collioure gets my vote. Bon voyage!

Been to both and loved both - either would be a great spot for an evening. And as mentioned, the drive between the two is fantastic.
