Can anyone tell me if the cable car rides in Zermatt are worth the price? And which destination would you recommend ... Matterhorn Glacier, Gornegrat, etc.
Definetly go up to the top. We did all. We were there once in the winter for skiing and once in the summer. In the summer we took the cable car all the way up the Kline Matterhorn. Kline Matterhorn is about 12,000 feet above sea level. Gornegrat is about 10,000 feet. If you can only do one, do the Kline Matterhorn. You change cable cars on the way up. At the top of the 1st or 2nd lift (can't remember which right now) there is a wonderful restaurant to stop and have lunch. It was an old home converted into a restaurant. You can sit outside and enjoy the views all around in a beautiful mountain meadow. Be sure to eat a fondue dinner and also try raclette. It is a melted cheese dish served on top of potatoes. Try an Irish coffee at Elsie's in town at night.
Thank you so much for the information. You have definitely helped me make up my mind.
Hello Sandy,
Klein Matterhorn and Gornergrat are both great trips, can't go wrong with either one. The Gornergrat trip is actually a train (cog) trip to the top with great views of the majestic Matterhorn.
The station for the Gornergrat is across from the rail station in Zermatt. The Klein Matterhorn is a cable car ride, very high in the mountains. Be prepare, when you get to the top it can be very cold. Have fun!
Mark
I agree do both, also, you can get off the train part way up to Gornegrat and walk rest of way up, easy well marked trail.
As Mark said, take a jacket ( windbreaker and a sweater or fleece)
