Has anyone used the cable cars in Zermatt? I hear they're pricey...anyone know of a discount? Any advice as always is appreciated, thanks!

I can't remember if the Swiss train pass allowed us a discount but GO ANYWAY. We were there in May and the weather was cool but sunny. The view from the top even had a little chapel which made the whole trek up a thing of beauty. Some folks walk (not ride) back down but hiking shoes are a must, which we didn't have.

You can find the prices for the various lifts (gondolas up Klein Matternhorn, train up Gornergrat, and funicular up Sunnegga) on the Zermatt website, www.zermatt.ch Try this page for the Klein Matterhorn lifts: http://www.zermatt.ch/en/page.cfm/p_rates_matterhorn_glacier_paradise All of them show a 50% discount with a Swiss pass, Half-Fare Card, or Swiss Card.

Thanks for the suggestions. It appears I will be just out of the summer season on Sept. 23. I hope they'll still run the lifts all the way.
