I want to buy my train tickets before I get to Spain so that I make sure I have all that I need. I only need a train between Madrid and Toledo and then Toledo to Granada. I have tried buying them on the Renfe website, but it always says there is an error during checkout. Does anyone know a way to purchase them?

Many people have trouble with the Renfe website. I was able to buy lots of tickets after consulting and following the instructions on the Tripadvisor Madrid forum. Man in Seat 61 has similar instructions. It is important to register your credit card with Verified by Visa first, as Renfe will attempt to verify your card through that system. If you cannot get Renfe to work, the various agencies (RailEurope, Petrabac, Rumbo.es) sell the tickets at comparable prices, incouding Web discounts, but add a handling fee so it ends up costing a bit more. For Toledo to Granada you will need to return to Madrid first. There may be advance purchase discounts on the Madrid to Granada train, so it is worth trying to buy in advance.
