Just arrived in Paris, and seem to have left my book in Germany... Any advice? Tried Gilbert Juane (sp?) by Place St Michel with no luck. Merci.
Yes its W H Smith. they have numerous Englsih guide books- good place to try
Don't know about Paris, but if you're willing to pay for the expedited shipping, Amazon.fr carries them. If you find yourself in Fontainebleau, Reel Books on Rue de Sablons usually has them in stock. Although there are so many people who carry them with them in Paris, it is possible that you might just be able to stop and read a page from each person and then you'll have read the whole thing!
ugh,, yes, and I have just forgotten the name,, I think its WH SMITH,, something like that, an english book store on Rue Du Rivoli, just across from the Tuilleries and Lourve. Saw many english guide books there and think that included Ricks.
You might try The Red Wheelbarrow, 22 Rue Saint Paul, in the 4th.
OP here. For the archives, Shakespeare & Co. at 37 Rue de la Bûcherie, had about a dozen copies of the 2011 Paris guide in stock. And at 19 euros each, a substantial savings over the $19.95 list price...
Shakespeare has everyhing, it's a landmark. Now, about this savings: how is twenty-four bucks a copy a savings over twenty bucks a copy?
I second the Red Wheelbarrow - Rue St Paul. I bought one there not long ago. What a neat bookstore. Look around and.... there are a lot of neat shops right there.
Okay, well I stand corrected. Only about the hundredth time I've been wrong, this year. Shakespeares' standards have really come down, since the old days. I guess whatever sells, huh? Thought the French were getting away from that. Well, live and learn.
Not far from WH Smith on rue de Rivoli is Galignani (right next door to Angelina). English books are at the back of the store, and the travel books are in their own room on the right-hand side. They carry all of Rick Steves books, and its an amazing bookstore.
