buying Mephistos in Paris?

I bought a pair of men's Mephistos in downtown Paris 10 years ago when the Euro was just starting and found that they cost half as much as they wanted for the same thing in Seattle. Two years ago I went into a big Mephistos store in downtown Paris to price some models that I had priced in Seattle before I left home. They were about the same price. The Euro has recently gone up in value compared to the US dollar. I would suggest that you price some pairs you like in SA and then compare those prices to what you find in Paris. I do enjoy the pair of Goretex Mephistos I bought there and ware them most of the time I visit Seattle with all its rain.

Last oct I bought a pair of Mephistos at a shop near the BonMarche and they cost me 139 euros. At Nordstoms the same shoes cost 325 dollars. I was planning on buying another pair this weekend in Paris however ran out of time. I will be back in oct and will buy another pair.

I have several pairs of Mephistos that I bought from Sierratradingpost.com for under $100. If they have a style you like it is a great feel.

There is a Mephisto store on rue Cler. Most of the Mephistos start at about 100 Euros.

We were in Paris last month and found Mephistos all over town. However, with the exchange rate, they were far from a bargain. One of their high end shoes would have cost about $425. I have bad feet and appreciate the quality of Mephistos, but I have my limits.

My dad wears Mephisto and had wanted to get a pair while he was over here visiting. However, given the current exchange rate, the only way to make it worthwhile, is if you are going to apply for the VAT refund. And he didn't want to stand in line at the airprt for that.

My husband and I both bought Mephistos in Avignon and they were about 1/3 less (even with the exchange). The shop gave us a card that had a website where you can buy Mephisto's online. Last time I checked, their prices were cheaper than the US stores and they offered free shipping.

Suggest you price the style you want here in the US and then see what that same shoe costs over there to decide where to buy them. Also, as someone else posted, you can go to a Mephistos web site: www.mephistos-shoe.com I hope) (I did not use the afore posted "indies" part of the address. I see the ones I looked at on their web site were about the same as here in Seattle but by buying them from them online you might save a lot is sales tax.
