Buying a ticket on DB Bahn for someone else

I am traveling with my college age son in Germany this May. We will be traveling separately some of the time and I am having difficulty figuring out how to buy a ticket for him only on this website, it seems to only want to use my name and require my credit card for id. Any suggestions? Also are reservations a good idea for train travel in Germany?

I think that the concern of German Rail is that travel agents will buy up the low cost tickets and resell them at a profit. That is why they prevent 3rd party sales.

Use his credit card to buy tickets for him.

Reservations are sometimes a good idea in Germany, but usually they can be purchased with the ticket over there.
