Buying a Beret

My daughter would love to buy a beret while we're in France. We'll be in Paris, Loire Valley, Reims, and Chartres. Any suggestions on where to go and how much we'll spend?

Amazon.com has all kinds of berets and most are less than $10. So at least you know what they cost stateside.

I bought several a couple of years ago at Monoprix for 10 euro each.

At 5-10 Euros she can buy one for all her friends. It's nice to know Amazon has them, just in case we can't find them!

You'll find cheap berets embroidered with "Paris" at any souvenir shop.

Margaret - If you go to outdoor markets, there are usually a couple of vendors selling berets.

I bought two today at a tourist shop on the Rue de Rivoli near rue Royal for five euros each.

Has anyone seen a local wearing a beret in Paris?

Yes, I have and often. They are great on a wet and windy day. I don't know why some think of them as quaint. They come in huge range of colours and can be worn with flair & panache.

Where do you buy flair and panache? Do they come in sizes and colors as well?

That sounds like an exotic flavour of ice cream.

Well, looks like my daughter and her friends will have lots of flair and pinache when school starts next fall. Thanks for the tips. Maybe even very unfashionable Mom will have to get one!

Dear All: Flair and Panache are my two French poodles. I wear my beret when I take them for walkies in Paris.
