We will be taking a condo in Nice in June. We made this our home base so we could take the train easily to other towns. Has anyone stayed in Nice and taken bus tours into the hill towns or to some of the smaller inland towns along the Riviera.
Do you mean actual tour buses--or public buses? Ligne d'Azur buses go to many small towns, including hill towns. The Rick Steves Provence & the French Riviera guidebook gives information on taking the bus to some of the most popular hill towns.
Yes, thanks. I meant public buses. I will be getting Rick's book before we go. I wondered if anyone had taken these local buses. Thank you
Local buses in the Nice region are fairly cheap and frequent. I would recommend a day trip to Saint-Paul-de-Vence and Vence which are attractive towns and have a lot of cool 20th-century art sights around. Another very nice day trip is to take the narrow-gauge Provence Railways to Entrevaux, a fortified hilltown which is much less touristified than those closer to the coast.
Thanks you Phillip. That is exactly what I was looking for. I will not do some research into those towns.
