Bus trip from Lugano to Tirano

Hello - I've read Rick's book on Switzerland, and had a few questions about taking this trip in early September:

  1. I'd like to take this bus trip, but would like to stop at Lake Como. Rick mentioned one bus that stops at Menaggio, but I haven't been able to find out any information about how long it stops there. Are there any buses that stop at Varenna? If possible, I'd like to stop and get a small "taste" of Lake Como rather than just seeing it from the bus window.

  2. I know there is a bus called the Palm Express from St. Moritz to Lugano. Does this same bus also go the other way - from Lugano to St. Moritz? If I take this bus, I'd like to leave Lugano in the morning for St. Moritz. Does this us make any stops along Lake Como?

Thanks!

Dan

  1. There is scheduled bus service between Lugano and Menaggio. You should be able to spend some time there before returning. You can also take a short excursion on one of the lake ferries. The easiest is straight across to Belagio and return. Varenna might be problematic depending on the ferry schedule. Here is the bus schedule: http://www.menaggio.com/ita/e-lakes/Orari_bus.pdf
  2. Here is the Palm Express schedule. Lugano to St Moritz direction is on page 2. http://www.fahrplanfelder.ch/fileadmin/fap_pdf_fields/2014/90.631.pdf

Thanks much. Sounds like there is not a bus that goes from Lugano to Tirano that stops for a time at Lake Como. I'll look into doing both of these bus tours then.
