NOTE: I posted this in the Transportation forum but thought I'd post it here too in case there are any Vienna experts who don't check that forum. :) I'm looking at how to get from our Vienna hotel to the airport on the day our GAS tour ends. We'll be at Hotel Post, which appears to be just a couple of streets away from Schwedenplatz. The Vienna AirportLines bus goes from Schwedenplatz and looks like a good option; plus, it's not very expensive. I just wanted to make sure this is a reliable service and to see if anyone has any warnings about it. Our flight is at 5:55 p.m., so I figure we should plan to be on the 4:00 p.m. bus at the latest. (The CAT appears to be our other option, but it's a little more expensive and doesn't seem to be that much quicker.)
Yes - we use it all the time. I fly back to the states once a month and I have used it 4-5 times recently. It is 7 euro one-way. Just pay the driver. It leaves promptly on the hour and half hour. It takes about 20 minutes depending on traffic. Dirk and Sue
Another option: the Schwedenplatz U-bahn is a couple blocks from your hotel where you can take the U-4 to Landstrasse/Bahnhof Mitte (1st stop) then switch to the S-7 line that goes to the airport. The airport is outside the city zone and you'll need 2 of the € 1.80 tickets for the trip (just validate both tickets) = total € 3.60 You should probably plan on being at the airport by 4:00, so be on the bus or train by 3:30
I have used Vienna Airport Lines very often. The last time was June 8, 2012. Just buy your 8 euro per person ticket when you board, no big deal. Put your luggage in the hold below the bus. The ride only seems to be 20-30 min. There is also a bus that goes between Westbahnhof and the airport every 30 minutes. But as another person has pointed out, you also have the option of the S Bahn or the more expensive CAT train to the airport which you board at Landstrasse/Wien Mitte.
When I read my post after sending it, I looks as though I am recommending Westbahnhof as an option for you. NO. I was simply mentioning the other route. Do not go to Westbahnhof. Sorry for the confusion.
Thanks, guys. I feel good about the bus now. :)
