Bus from Basel to Interlaken

I'm traveling from Basel to Interlaken wondering if anyone knew about a bus that goes between the two towns. I don't have a Euro Rail pass and the trains are a bit expensive. I would love to know if there were any cheaper options. Thanks!

There is no bus. There are direct trains to Interlaken every hour. If you're going to be spending any time in Switzerland one of the various Swiss Passeswill save you lots of money. If you're planning on visiting the mountain villages above Interlaken you'll have to use a train at some point. Click the "railpasses" tab above for all your options. On some routes the Swiss Rail site (http://rail.ch) does offer advance/restricted discount fares.

I don't know of bus service between Basel and Interlaken, but if you are going to spend any amount of time in Switzerland - like up to 30 days - it would be well worth your while to purchase the 1/2 fare card at any train station in Switzerland and then take the train to Interlaken which is a 3 hour ride. Go to web site of SBB.CH and check on schedules and prices between Basel and Interlaken by 1/2 fare if you purchase 1/2 fare card. The 1/2 fare card will get you 1/2 fare on all forms of transport in Switzerland including the cable cars.

"take the train to Interlaken which is a 3 hour ride" Basel to Interlaken by train is just under two hours.
