Bus/Coach from Madrid to Bilbao...A Bit Urgent

As we wrote in the Transportation thread under the Ash Cloud Returning thread, our flight was canceled into LHR. We managed to get UA to re-route us from IAD to Madrid but we still need to get to Bilbao. We are scheduled to land tomorrow am @ 0700 local time.

I've never been to Madrid but it looks like there is a regular bus service from the Avda America bus station to Bilbao via the ALSA company according to this website http://www.movelia.es/venta/asp/Horarios.asp When I google ALSA it doesn't show any routes however.

Can anyone confirm this route exists and the best way to get from Madrid Airport to the Adva America bus station?

Thanks. I feel like we are running a leg of the Amazing Race here

Yes, ALSA makes that run several times a day, and you can purchase tickets in advance on the Movelia website. The Avenida de America bus-metro station is in the northeast part of Madrid. Probably the fastest way to get there (other than taxi) is to catch the number 200 Madrid city bus outside terminal 1, 2, or 3...it makes one or 2 stops after leaving the terminals and concludes at Av. de America There's a bus every 12-15 minutes. If you're coming in to Terminal 4, then it's the 204 city bus.....same routine. The Av. de America station is a couple of levels deep...but you won't have any problems finding where your bus departs from.

Confirm Norm response. You will like Spanish buses. Very comfortable, convenient, and cheap. Because the Spanish train system is not as extensive as most of central Europe, they have developed an excellent bus system.

Cheers for the quick replies! We have a car reserved at the Madrid airport as well so it looks like we should be covered. Hard part is getting across the Atlantic. Keeping our fingers crossed we make it out today
