My husband and I will be in Paris in June. We are in our 60's. We thought about taking day tours out to the Provance and/or Burgundy areas. Has anybody had experience in those two areas? We are already taking tours to Mont St. Michel and to the Loire Valley. Thank you. Elaine
Burgundy and Provence are very big regions and some distance from Paris. Even with the high-speed TGVs, I don't think day trips are very feasible. I'm surprised you've made arrangements for Mt. St. Michel
I, personally, would not visit either of these regions as a day trip, but it is feasible. Just factor in the train ride to your plans.
Way too hard. Burgundy is a lot closer than Provence. Dijon, in Burgundy, is a couple hundred miles from Paris (close to three hours by car, not sure of duration by train).
A really nice day trip from Paris is to Chartres which, in my mind, is the absolute best of the Notre Dame style cathedrals.
I lived in Burgundy for 8 months while teaching English. It is a beautiful region and definitely worth traveling to. From where I lived in southern Burgundy (Chalon-sur-saône), it was 2h30 by direct TGV to Paris Gare de Lyon. From Dijon to Paris, it takes 1h30 on the fastest train, so depending on where in Burgundy you want to go, it is actually a very feasible day trip. Beaune is a bit further, at 2h15 on TGV. In Northern Burgundy (ie, Sens) it only takes just over an hour to get to Paris.
So, it really depends where in Burgundy you want to go. Most people head to Dijon or Beaune, both are worth the visit, and if you did 2 days and 1 night there, you could effectively see both.
