We are taking a day trip from Paris, we have already visited Dijon and was interested in a small town so Auxerroe or Troyes for a day? Any other suggestions? Thank you.

I know both fairly well. The physical site of Auxerre, on the hill, is beautiful, cathedral interesting, archaeological museum has Gallo-Roman artifacts up through more recent. But I think Troyes has more medieval central city preserved, more churches as well as the cathedral, and more important museums. Troyes.
