Burghausen train travel luggage storage

In early April we are traveling through Germany on the train. On one day between two other points we would like to visit Burghausen to see the castle. Does anyone know if there is somewhere that we can store our luggage? Does the train station have lockers (large enough)? Or maybe someone who would storage luggage for a few hours? Also, how would I get in contact with the Tourist Information in a specific town? In this case, Burghausen but it would be nice to know for any town.

TI offices will often hold bags while you visit their towns.

The plan of the Bahnhof (www.stationsdatenbank.bayern-takt.de/StationsdatenbankBEG/Steckbrief.html?lang=de&efz=8001284) does not show lockers. I know there is a little restaurant across the bus slips from the tracks (I had lunch there), but I don't know if they would hold your luggage. You'll have to take a bus (#1, maybe #4) from Burghausen Bahnhof to the castle (Ludwigsberg or Marktler Str. stop). The tourist office is at Stadtplatz 14, in the old town. You can write to them at [email protected]. Often, attractions like the castle, which don't allow backpacks, will have free lockers (Garderoben) at the entrance or would offer to hold your luggage. If you are arriving by train, you will have to go through the town of Altötting (Alt·Ötting) about 25 min before Burghausen. There are locker there, in the Bahnhof. If you get off in Altötting, the next train to Burghausen is in an hour, but there is a bus in half an hour. I didn't have the luggage problem in 2007. I stayed at a Gasthaus right at the foot of the hill, below the castle, in the old town, left my luggage where I stayed, and walk up a path, coming out in the middle of the castle.

I have an e-mail to the TI office. Hopefully, they will answer. We will be coming in on the bus from Salzburg then taking the train from Burghausen.

According to the Bahn website, bus 16, which comes from Laufen (depending on your route), stops at Marktler Str., two stops before the Burghausen Hbf. You should get off there and avoid backtracking. It's an 8 min walk to the castle entrance. To see the route direct to the castle, use "Burghausen, Burg Burghausen" as the 'To:" and check POI (Point of Interest) above it.

I'm guessing 2-3 hrs, but that really depends on you interest level of what's there. It's hard for me to remember exactly, but I rarely get started in the morning before 9, and I think I was at the Burghausen Bahnhof, which only takes a few minutes from the Altstadt by around noon. I had lunch at the restaurant near the station and got to my stop in Munich, a two hour trip in early afternoon. I didn't tour the entire complex. As I said, my room was in a Pension under the castle end of the "peninsula". I walked up a path from the Wöhrsee into about the 3rd courtyard, so I didn't have to walk all the way from the "mainland". I did tour the castle complex itself and the courtyard outside of it. BTW, I mentioned the nearby town of Altötting, which you will pass through on the train from Burghausen. The current Pope was born in or near Altötting.
