We will visit Brussels, amsterdam, Prague and vienna in July this summer. With windows and no screens do we need to be worried about mosquitoes or other flying friends? Shold we only try for AC hotels/ b & bs even tho they mat also need open windows. We really would prefer to not be sealed up.
I can say that I've been bugged by bees and flies (during the day) but don't recall too many problems with mosquitoes. We have usually slept in places where we opened the windows at night, and I'd remember if I was being bitten. I've been to all of those cities so hopefully my experience is standard.
Thank you for the reply. I'll take some insect repellent to be safe but am hopeful others have had your experience.
We spent 8 weeks in western Europe and Czech Republic and we were never bitten.
Since it didn't really freeze last winter almost all across Western Europe for the very first time it is expected that this year there would be more moskitos than usually. However, at least Germany and France spray bio-degradable insecticides in their breeding waters so that eventually the inconvenciences to people should be as little als in the recent years. Just keep your windows closed while light is on and you'll be fine. European moskitos are not (yet) as bad as e.g. Mexican ones. Let's see what global warming will bring to us ;-)
