budgeting for food

I will be travelling o germany and going to places like Munich, Rothenburg, The rhine area, berchtesgaden and in Austria Ruette and salzburg and France for 2 nights in Colmar. How much Euro per day should I budget for lunch and dinner ? I am not a large/particular eater, don't drink and there are 2 of us travelling. Thanks.

Your food budget depends on a number of variables: If a good, solid breakfast buffet is included with your room price and you're willing to pick up fruit and lunch items at grocery stores, bakeries and/or market stalls and fast food places (not McDonald's) you can save a lot of money. I don't know about Austria but Germany is very reasonable as far as food goes. Roughly anywhere from 25 Euro (you have to be really frugal for that) on up per person per day if you stay away from expensive restaurants. Count on coffee, bottled drinks, including bottled water etc. sometimes being more expensive than a glass of wine. A moderate food budget could be around 40 Euros a day per person. You could carry some snacks back to your room inconspicuously in a small bag, too and carry a water bottle. Tap water is safe to drink. Undoubtedly somebody else will chime in and give you his/her idea of a food budget.
