Budget hotels or hostels in Paris

I've contacted almost all RS recommended value hotels and am not having much success. Specifically, I'm looking for a twin room for mid-May for two nights for my sister and me. We are young-minded professors in our late 40's-50s who appreciate a nice bed, ensuite facilities and a good night sleep. Any advice or suggestions will be gratefully accepted! Jen

Jennifer,, relying on one guide book to find accomadation is risky,, note, your visit is about 6-8 weeks away too,, people book months and months in advance especially April-October. I would start looking over at the tripadvisor.com Paris forum,, at their hotel reviews specifically. I have used them and found 7 or 8 great places that way. May is busy too,, theres alot of public holidays in France then,, get cracking! I have stayed at these hotels ,, don't know if they will have room for you at this date, but are clean and excellant locations( much better then most of Ricks!) Rooms are SMALL though so if you want big rooms sorry can't help you. Hotel Saint Pierre( one by Sorbonne, there are a few hotels with similar names, this one is on Rue De Medicine)
Hotel Eugenie, I prefer the shower only rooms, /I had no issue with noise, but this hotel is in a busy area so ask for a courtyard( absolutely no view ) room if this conerns you. Hotel Place Du Louvre,, this hotel has good rates if booked well in advance, but prices go up alot after that,, check it out anyways. Quiet location , but only one block from Louvre and Seine! I have not stayed at these hotels( but have one booked for this summer) but would look at Hotel Diana, and Hotel College Du France. Good luck.

Jennifer, You might also have a look at the HI Hostels website, as they have four properties in Paris. I checked the first one, and they appear to have 38 double rooms (not sure if they're booked at this time?). With HI Hostels, it's worthwhile to buy an inexpensive membership, as that provides preferred booking (over non-members) and slightly better prices. It's somewhat "basic" accommodations, but I've found the facilities are usually quite consistent from one location to another, they're well run and the prices are reasonable. They usually provide a good breakfast. As mentioned in a previous reply, it would be a really good idea to get something booked SOON. Bon Voyage!

Thanks for the suggestions! I tried Familia hotel and reserved at Hotel Minerve in the Latin Quarter. The Tripadvisor reviews were good and the price is decent, I think. Jen

I was going to suggest an Ibis Hotel, but see you already made reservations. They are cheap, but nice for anyone else looking for reasonable accomodations.
