Budget Help for Paris

I know I already have another thread going but I thought it would be best to start a new one since I am talking about a different country.

My husband and I will be spending 4 days/3 nights in Paris early next spring. Not counting hotel or transportation, would it be accurate to budget $600 for food? I know, with the exchange rate right now (and I am sure that by the time we go it will change) it equals out to be around 384 euros. I’ve never been to Paris so I don’t know if this will be enough. We are also going to be staying in a hotel that serves breakfast so we will only need lunch & dinner.

So, in a nutshell, would 384 euros be enough for two people for four days for two meals a day? Or should I increase the amount? If I increase the amount, what would you suggest I increase it to? Also, we aren’t the kind of people that need to eat at fancy places. We actually prefer the mom and pop restaurant or stands.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Liz: Having answered your same question about London, I will now weigh in on Paris. Let's round the amount up to 400 euros, so that we can say you will have 100 per day for the two of you for lunch and dinner. If you eat your main meal at mid-day, when restaurant menus are less expensive, and have quiche & cheese & wine in your hotel room in the evening, you will manage very well. Paris is less expensive all round than London.

I should have added that there are lots of little charcuteries & bakeries where you can buy yourselves yummy stuff for a supper in your hotel room.

Thanks Norma, I am thinking that 100 (euros, pounds & CHF) is what I need to budget for each day. It seems so high to me. But then again, I am an American! I will have to get use to paying that much for food. Thanks for your ideas. Any & every idea helps!

We just returned and spent $65 USD per day per person mostly lunch/dinner (averages in our teen kids who ate adult menu items, but a little less money on drinks- no alcohol...but soda is almost as expensive), but also a cheap bakery item every morning. We went to mainly nice, but not fancy places. Our most expensive meal was Le P'tit Troquet in the rue Cler area- $421 (271 Euros) for six people/four Adults and two older teens, but we had two bottles of wine :-)
