Budget accommodations in Berner Oberland

Our family of 6 - grandparents, daughter and husband - two late teen granddaughters - will be traveling in June to London - Paris - Normandy -Loire Valley - Switzerland - Venice in June. We will be in the Berner Oberland for three to four days - depending on the weather. Any ideas for budget accommodations there? Any ideas on best and most scenic train route from Interlaken to Venice? Thanks!

Budget is hard to find in the BO unless you share bathrooms and possibly sleep in the hay up in the alpine villages. However, two suggestions. The Hotel Staubbach in Lauterbrunnen at about $90/night. In Muerren, it's the Chalet Fontana at $45/night. The Chalet Fontana does have a family apartment with two bedrooms. You can email [email protected] for further information.

You can also go to www.muerren.ch website and click on ACCOMDODATION. You will see a listing of most hotels in Muerren (Chalet Fontana is not listed). You will also see prices in CHS (Swiss Francs).

As for scenic trains to Venice, there's really only one way out of the area to Venice. Interlaken/Spiez/Brig/Milan/Venice. You won't be disappointed with any of the scenery. The alps coming out of Switzerland and the Lake Maggiore area down to Milan.
