Help, please. I am traveling from Bruge to Brussels via train on Thursday and then need to take the airport shuttle train to the airport to fly to Germany at 1:40 pm. What time do I need to leave for Brussels to have ample time to locate the airport shuttle train (is it hard to find?) and then get to the airport to check in and check luggage. Thanks for your help. I cannot locate this info anywhere. Jan
BUMP...Anyone?
The MIVB/STIB Airport Line bus service to/from central Brussels (Luxembourg) runs approximately every 15-20 minutes from 05:45 until 19:21. The journey takes around 40 minutes.
Since your flight is at 1:40, you'll have to be there by 12:40 pm. * If you catch the 10:31 am train out of Bruges, you will arrive at Brussels-Centraal station at 11:33. There is a train from Brussels Centraal to the airport at 11:40 and another at 11:52, and the journey will take 16 minutes. You have one further backup....a third train leaves Brussels-Centraal for the airport at 12:02 and arrives at 12:24.
I just knew the smart kids would show up soon...
Thanks Norm...exactly what I needed to know. Jan
Wait, are you talking about a shuttle to Brussels-Zaventem (the main airport, and very easy to reach via rail) or Brussels-Charleroi (which is not directly linked to the trains)? If Brussels-Zaventem, trains run from downtown to the airport about every 20-30 minutes, and the duration of the trip is only about 10 minutes. No need to take a shuttle. I would plan to leave Brugge about 90-120 minutes before you want to arrive at the airport. Some of the trains from Brugge will even stop at the airport, so depending on when you go, you may not even need to switch trains in Brussels. If Brussels-Charleroi... well, I don't know too much about getting there.
I'm not aware of any train that runs from Bruges to Brussels via the airport. Unless they've changed things in the last year or so, the train from Brussels to the airport is a regional commuter run routed from other destinations, thru Brussels, to the airport. There are a couple of trains from Gent that stop at the airport, but none that I know of from Bruges.
For Brussels-Charleroi, you can take the train to the Midi/Zuid station and then catch the Brussels Citi Shuttle from there. Shuttles depart every half hour from 4am to 8:30pm and take about an hour. Not sure that the OP needs this info, but maybe someone else does.
I stand corrected (checked the NMBS website). I must have been thinking of another station to the west of Brussels (Ghent perhaps?).
