Brussels to Bastogne

I will be staying in Brussels for a night or two (no set time frame) in September. I would really like to visit Bastogne. Is there a train I can take there or do I have to go by bus? Is the bus easily accessible from town? And, finally, is Bastogne too far from Brussels to be worth a day trip?

Thank you!

According to the timetables on the German Rail site, you would take a train to Libramont and a bus from there to either Bastogne-Sud or Bastogne-Nord. Leave at 06:33 to arrive in Bastogne a little after 09:30. You can leave Bastogne as late as 18:30 and still be back in Brussels by 22:27. For detailed timetables, go here. After you get summary timetables for Bruxelles-Midi to Bastogne, click on the arrow to the left of the departure time(s) of your choice to see the connecting time at Libramont.

It's a relatively easy drive (once you get outside the Brussels Ring, that is), but as the others have noted, the town does not receive passenger rail service.
