What luck (considering usual delays) have people had with flying in and out of the Brussels National airport?
I've flown in and out many times. It's as good or bad as any other major airport. The immigration lines tend to be very short, but the security cue for intra-Europe flights can be a little long.
Last time I was there in '07 I thought it was a dump. The walk from arrival gate to baggage claim (or to your next departure gate if you're transferring)can be very long. The upside is that if you're flying out of Chicago it is often the cheapest destination in Europe outside Ireland.
We flew home from there this June. The terminal is a long long thing. Bummer if your gate is at the very end. Our issues with the airport came from a delayed flight. Our Aerlingus flight from Brussels to Dublin was delay because of plane problems and so they issued everyone meal vouchers for lunch while we waited. Well, the only place to eat is BACK thru security! ARRG! Oh well, by the time we were done eating and were headed back thru once again, we were virtually the only ones at security -- no lines! HA! The whole airport almost felt deserted by late afternoon. Very odd.
I flew into Brussels this summer and I thought it was very easy. Lots of airports have long walks. This one connects easily with the railroad. I was in out pretty quickly. I had no complaints.

Compared to similarly sized airports, I have never found the terminals to be particularly long.
In April this year we had a very early departure on British Air from Brussels to Heathrow - no issues at all.
