we are grandparents with mobility issues. How close to the Grand Place in Brussels is a motor coach permitted to drop us off and collect us later? Is the walk very long from the Centrall Gare?

Mal, I lived in Brussels for five years and was back visiting just last summer. Traffic in Brussels can be horrible, especially during the work week. A motor coach would be able to stop about 1 to 1.5 blocks from the Grand Place. Gare Central is about 10 minute walk at a slow pace, but it is up hill coming from the Grand Place. Enjoy your trip.

I remember a lot of cobblestones and narrow sidewalks from the train station, too. A taxi might be a better idea than a tour bus, but negotiate the price before you get in.
