Hello! I'm going to be in Brussels with my parents and boyfriend over New Year's from the 31st-2nd. I know a lot will be closed, but is there a chance of getting dinner in Brussels without paying a fortune? Also, will there be anything open on New Year's Day? Also thinking about a possible day 1/2 day trip to Bruges.
If your hotel has a restaurant, it should be open for dinner on those days.
Most museums will be closed on 1 January. I've only spent the New Year holiday in Belgium once, but I recall most stores and restaurants remaining open on 31 December, although many closed earlier than normal. Of course, churches and parks never close, so this might be a good day to check out one of the world's only Art Deco cathedrals, Basilica of the Sacred Heart in the Koekelberg district.
