Brussels for a few hours

Hi all, We are planning to take the train from Paris to Bruges - stopping as Rick suggests in Brussels for a few hours. What is the best way to do train tickets? Should we buy a one way from Paris to Brussels and then a one way from Brussels to Bruges in order to have a few hours to check Brussels out? When I looked online for train options, I didn't see a long time in Brussels for a Paris to Bruges via Brussels train ticket/trip. Other options? Your input is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If you travel on Thalys and specify Brugge as your destination, one ticket will cover the whole trip. Thalys trains don't service Brugge directly, so you have to change trains onto Belgium's domestic rail service, NMBS (or SNCB in French). On Thalys, your ticket obligates you to a certain seat on a particular train, much like an airline ticket. However, this is not the case with NMBS, you can take any train to your destination at any time. So, spend as long as you want in Brussels, trains leave for Brugge at least twice an hour during the day.

"...Thalys trains don't service Brugge directly..." Thalys does service Bruges directly from Paris. Off-season there are only direct trains on the weekends. During the summer months there is at least one direct train train a day in the morning, and another in the evening back to Paris. Book tickets at http://www.thalys.com. The sooner you book the cheaper it will be. Tickets are sold 90 days before your departure.

I stand corrected. But if you want to see Brussels, then only buy your Thalys ticket through to Brussels. Buy the ticket from Brussels to Brugge when you get there, you won't save anything with an advanced purchase.
