Rick writes in his book about deeply discounted hotels in Brussels during the summer. Has anyone had any luck with the e-mail address: [email protected]? Unfortunately it does not appear to work. Any recommendations for hotels near Grand Place? Thanks!

The discount booking site has now changed to Brussels International. Some very good discounts at weekends in particular.

The Novotel chain is more expensive than the Ibis. Both are at the Grand Place and St. Catherine's. I stayed at Ibis St. Catherine's which is about a five-minute walk to the Grand Place. I just checked (popped in a date of 7/17 for 2 nights) and the cost is about 1/3 less ($66US vs. $97US) at Ibis St. Catherine's than the Ibis on the Grand Place. For the short walk, the savings is worth the effort. Both are close to the underground subway to the train station. The Ibis was clean with good service. Good basic hotel. I would check trip advisor to make sure others feel the same way since it has been two years since my visit. Good luck and enjoy Brussels. I did.

Not sure about deeply discounted but last fall we enjoyed our stay at Les Ecrins in Brussels. It's a moderate-priced hotel listed in Rick's book. We were upgraded to a really nice small apartment. It's several minute walk to the Grand Place but right across from the Sainte Catherine Metro stop. A great breakfast was delivered to our door was included in the price.
