Bruges with a travel wheelchair-cobblestones too much?

My late-70s parents and I are thinking of making a detour to Bruges in mid-September. Typically we push my Mom in a travel wheelchair (folds up, small wheels) and she gets up with a cane to go into stores.

What are the cobblestones like in Bruge? Is pushing a wheelchair here feasible or just asking for trouble?

They are typical European cobblestones.

My suggestion would be to take a taxi from the train station to the old town Market Platz.

Then take a carriage ride (driven by a horse) that tours the old town.

Then take a canal cruise which is very interesting that last approximately an hour.

If you are driving you can drive right to the old town. Not sure about parking though.

If you are spending the night you would need a Hotel with an elevator or a ground floor room.

Enjoy!

Another problem is that you won't know when you will encounter cobblestones. Some streets have smoother paved walking areas; most don't. There are smooth paved paths along the river which take you from the train station well into town, but not all the way. And street maps don't show which streets are cobbled. The best thing I can advise is for you to be prepared to take a taxi at any point. Good luck!
