Bruges to BRU

Need some help getting from Bruges to Brussels Intl airport. Train to main station in Brussels, then train to the airport? How much time needs to be allowed, including security checks, etc.?

"Train to main station in Brussels, then train to the airport?" There may (emphasis on "may") be trains from Brugge that continue through Brussels and on to the airport, which is a short ride from downtown. But if not, pretty much as you wrote, except note that Brussels has three main stations. Most trains that go to the airport make stops in all three. "How much time needs to be allowed, including security checks, etc.?" Do you mean checking into the airport or total amount of time from Brugge? Personally, I would allot 4 hours from departure in Brugge.

Thanks. We plan on about 4 days in Bruges. When we get our hotel/B&B accomodations perhaps they can help up firm up the information. We don't have flight departure time from BRU yet either. Any recommendations on accomodations in Bruges? Day trip to Ghent a good idea?

According to the timetables on the German Rail site, you can take an IC train from Brugge to either Bruxelles-Midi or Bruxelles-Nord, and a regional train from there to the airport. The trip will take around 90 minutes.

We stayed at this hotel in Brugges: Hotel Bourgoensch Hof Wollestraat 39, 8000 Brugge, BELGIUM
Tel: 011 32 50 33 16 45 Fax: 011 32 50 34 63 78 It is right on the picture postcard canal, about two blocks behind the Tower/main square - so you can get a canalside room if you ask. And they have a decent breakfast buffet if you want to eat at the hotel. Just next door is a really nice restaurant...Erasmus...where we had one of the best meals on our whole trip. We were in a group and did a prix fix menu with beer pairings as they are famous for their beer cellar. Can't comment on the time for the train from Brugges to Brussels but I can tell you that from Brussels Centrale Station it takes about 25 minutes to get to the airport.

The Hotel Erasmus gets excellent reviews and is located on one of the canals. I have been in the hotel but have not stayed there. If I go to Brugge again, I
would stay there.
