We liked Hotel Patritius which Rick describes as a "grand circa-1830 neoclassical mansion." It's lovely and in a great location.

You'll enjoy Bruges!

We loved the 't Geerwijn Bed & Breakfast (in Rick's book). Utterly charming place. get the top-floor A-frame room if you can.

You'll love Bruges. Eat some chocolate for me.

We had an enjoyable stay at the Royal Stewart B&B. Friendly, quiet yet handy location, and the tea kettle in our room was a nice touch. www.royalstewart.be
And go to Tom's Diner for a delicious dinner.

We loved Hotel Malleberg @ Hoogstraat 7, 8-8000 Bruges. Very nice, small place with great atmosphere & a computer in the breakfast room. A they do a fantastic World War I tour. I highly recommend this place & will stay again. Patricia, UT

Adding to the list of people voting for their own personal favorite hotel, let me promote Hotel Adornes, recommended in Rick's book. It sits right on a particularly scenic stretch of canal, but the most important benefit? Free, unlimited use of the hotel's bicycles, anytime of day or night.

I would agree that 't Geerwijn Bed & Breakfast is very nice. We're going back to Bruges, but because of all the stairs (we'll have bicycles along), we're staying in another one of Rick's recommendations where we have a garage/garden option. You'll love Bruges.

Our family of four loved the Royal Stewart and their doggies in 2005. We had trouble finding it so they came outside to wave at us and helped unload our car. They had seen us driving by, and by, and by! Once we found it we felt so silly as it was obvious. He took us to park at the train station for the night and showed us how to walk home. Climb the tower and enjoy the view! We loved one of their restaurant suggestions just a block or two off the main square. But another one farther away didn't meet our desires.

We stayed at the Royal Stewart in Aug 2007 and had a wonderful experience. I would go back there in a minute - we also had trouble finding the place - we just didn't look up to see their sign - by the way, one of their dogs passed away shortly before our arrival and the other was not in good shape. so sorry. charlie

We rented an apartment in Bruges last year for 5 nights. It was luxurious and high-tech and much nicer than a hotel. Look on www.vrbo.com
The location could not have been more convenient to everything.
