Bruges Cycling

Has anyone done the bike trip from Bruges to Damme? Is it worth it or should we try to cycle some other direction for the day?

We didn't cycle it but walked it a few years ago. And it was a very pleasant walk along the water. The pathway was shared with the cyclists. Then we had beer in Domme. Definitely very pleasant.

We did it in '08 and loved it. Very worth it imo. We rented bikes for 24 hrs + a day and rode all over town, not just the city center...through the residential areas, along the water canals, through parks. It was great. We loved Brugge.

It is easy to do. The bikes are marginal, primarily a light cruiser, but it is all flat so it doesn't make much difference.

Shelley, Yes, I did the bicycle trip from Bruges to Damme last September (on a RS tour) and it WAS "worth it" (IMHO). The Hotel offered free bikes, so there was no cost (except for the two "Triples" I had at the Pub in Damme to "reward" myself for the ride). Once you get off the street, the path to Damme is all paved, and passes by pastoral farmlands and a Windmill along a canal. It's a beautiful ride! Happy travels!

I will be going to Bruge also and would like to know, how long it takes for that ride?

Chantal, The ride to Damme takes about half an hour each way (as I recall). This will vary according to your departure point in Bruges. We departed from Hotel Adornes, which is fairly close to the start of the trail. Cheers!
