Interested in suggestion for train to Amsterdam from Bruge, is it also possible to stop in Brussel for the afternoon then get back on the train to Amsterdam, same ticket or new trip ? thank you
Tickets on domestic routes in Belgium (like the one you would need to take from Brugge to Brussels) are valid all day. You can take any train you want, and they leave as frequently as every 30 minutes.
You have two options for the second leg of the trip: the high-speed Thalys line, which reserves your seat, or a slightly slower Intercity express, which does not require a reservation.
Take an IC train from Bruges to Brussels. Your ticket will be good on any train.
The fast train for Brussels-Amsterdam to which Steve refers is a Thalys train. If you book well in advance (up to 90 days allowed), you can get a Smoove fare of 25 EUR. The ticket is for a specific departure date and time and is non-refundable and non-exchangeable. If you want to have more flexibility for your time in Brussels, take an IC train from Brussels to Amsterdam. The ride is one hour longer, but again your ticket will be good on any train.
We made reservations on Thalys for our trip to Bruges then stopped in Brussels, stowed our luggage in lockers, and took the train into town to the Grand Plaza for part of the afternoon. Took the train back to Brussels Midi, retrieved our luggage, and got on the next train to Bruges. Very easy & doable.
