Has anyone stayed recently at the Brockenhotel? That's the hotel on top of the Brocken, northern Germany's highest mountain, in the Harz. How expensive is the Hexenklause, the restaurant at the top of the hotel? The hotel offers Halbpension "auf Anfrage" (on request), so I wrote to them and asked what you get to eat and how much it costs. They replied with a dictionary definition of Halbpension. They're being kind of evasive, like they don't want me to know how much it costs. I am reluctant to book there because the Hexenklause is just about the only place to get a meal after the restaurant in the train station closes.
Hi, Lee, I haven't stayed there but "Halbpension" means two meals, usually breakfast and dinner. At the Brockenhotel, breakfast is included in the room price and in my experience with other German hotels is usually a very nice buffet. "Auf Anfrage" means upon request. Also, if you pay for Halb Pension at the Brockenhotel, you can actually eat dinner at two of their sister hotels, according to the site I found on google.
