brittany help with accommodations and itinerary

We are 2 couples planning on a trip to brittany this summer. Our plan is to fly into CDG and take a train, perhaps to Rennes and rent a car. We would like to rent a cottage in the southwest of brittany for 1 week and then one near St. Malo for 1 week, before we return to CDG. Any suggestions on were to stay and what to see.

Quimper is a place to consider home basing in for the southwest Brittany part of your holiday. I recommend your early purchase (as it will help you now in the planning stage) of the Michelin Green Guide to Brittany; in front is a fold out detail map titled Touring Programmes showing four scenic driving/touring routes with details on the sights to be seen on those drives.

Quimper, on the map, looks like a good location. Can anyone recommend a B&B, holiday house by the seaside or a reasonably priced hotel. Thanks again for your knowledge.

We stayed at Hotel Elizabeth in St. Malo -- a lovely, small hotel inside the old, walled city. Great location for exploring that wonderful part of St. Malo.
We also stayed at a lovely placed called Hotel Les Grandes Roches in Tregunc, very close to Concarneau. Concarneau is a lovely seaside village. Also close to Pont Aven which is beautiful with a river running through it. The early impressionist artists spent a great deal of time in Pont Aven.

Can't help you with apts, but these are lovely places to visit. Quimper also looked very nice.

Jeanne: My guess is that you'll only get one or two recommendations, on this Board, for accommodations in Quimper--that's not going to be a sufficient number for you to make the best decision. And Rick does not cover that area well in his book. So, I highly recommend that you consult the travel experts at Michelin, who have been rating accommodations and restaurants in that area for about a hundred years. Go to www.viamichelin.com click here, you want the Tourism tab, and there you'll find many recommendations for what you're looking for. That's what the French do. If you have questions about how to use that website, send me a Private Message.
