We need a one-night-stand in northern Brittany in July, enroute by car from Brest airport to the next night in Dinan. Countryside is good, simple/rustic is good, scenic is good but not essential.
Any advice on Dinan and the Rance area would be welcome, too.
Thanks!
Vicki
After two nights in Carnac, we stayed two nights at Ti al Lannec (north coast) and then two nights in Dinan. Ti al Lannec was more expensive than our other hotels but it was a beautiful place to stay and had excellent food. On our full day in Dinan, we went to St. Malo and to MSM in the late afternoon. Dinan has some cute medieval streets, but we did not find much to actually do in the town. We felt the RS books overly-hyped the place--there's a few nice shops, but it's definitely not even close to the scale of York. Canterbory(French spelling?) is a good restaurant in Dinan.
You must be arriving at Brest really late; it's only a couple or three hours to Dinan.
One of my favorite small towns in Brittany is Morlaix.
I've stayed at Les Colombages a couple of times: http://monsite.wanadoo.fr/chambresmedievales/
If you have a few minutes the next morning drive about ten minutes north to the fishing village of Loquenole for a view of the lower end of the bay.
