Will have 5 days in Brittany/Normandy and would appreciate suggestions. We will drive from Paris on Sunday and return to Paris on Friday and not sure how to divide the time between the two area.
We did a loop driving trip through that area in June, 2008. Our trip was longer than yours. However, if you check the destinations on a map, you would probably see pieces you could omit so it would fit your available time. We did this: two nights Chenonceux (yes, I know it's in the Loire!), two nights Carnac, through Pont Aven to two nights on the Granite Coast, two nights Dinan (in hindsight, we would have preferred St. Malo), two nights Les Andeleys (just east of Normandy) from which we visited Rouen and Honfleur. We then headed north towards Calais because we wanted to take the ferry and see the White Cliffs of Dover. If you would like more details, just ask.
We were in Brittany and Normandy in September 2009 and were very happy with our trip. Day 1 we took the train from Paris to Chartres, toured the cathedral, then rented a car and drove to Dinan. Day 2 we walked around Dinan and to the village of Lehon. Day 3 we drove to Mont St. Michel in the morning then headed to Bayeux where we saw the Tapestry. We spent three nights in Bayeux, which is a great base for touring WWII sights. Day 4 & 5 we toured the battlefields with Battlebus Tours. They are no longer in business, but some of their tour guides give tours. Day 6 we toured on our own and spent the evening in Honfleur. You would need to be back in Paris that night. You could consider spending a night on Mont St. Michel instead of two nights in Dinan. Or you might choose St. Malo over Dinan. I loved Dinan, but did not go to St. Malo, so I can't compare.
