Brittany

Has anyone ever rented an apartment or cottage in Brittany, France. We are thinking about it for a week in the Quimper area. All suggestions appreciated.
thanks!

Ah, Diane, apparently no one on this site goes to Brittany! I'd posted a question because my daughter will be in Brest for the summer, and got nothing.

In searching for info, I looked at vrbo.com and homeaway.com, and there does is quite a bit there. Looks like lots of Brits go to Brittany.

Try Gites de France, an association of vacation home rentals, mostly rural. Properties are rated by the association. I think they have an English language site.

Usually, I click on every single post about Brittany because I love the area and lived there for a year. However, I know the northern coast from St. Malo to Morlaix very well, less so the south. I've been to Carnac (must see!) a couple of times but that's it.

To find accommodation "Gites de France" was mentioned already. When we were looking for accommodations I also simply googled "accommodation Brittany" and then contacted interesting properties individually. Another good agency with vacation rentals all over Europe is this one:

Cynthia,

I'm surprised that you found Brittany not very exciting. This region has a very unique character that you won't find anywhere else. Did you visit some of the villages with "enclos paroissials" like Lampaul-Guimiliau or Pleyben or Saint-Thégonnec? Where else would it be totally normal to find a B&B for 50 Euro/night located in a 13th century Norman farm house? The rugged coastline along the Côte de Granite Rose is famous for very good reasons (the only other places in the world like that are in Corsica or China). And even on a cooler day it can be fun to explore one of the hidden beaches all by yourself without hordes of other tourists.

What I saw of Brittany was beautiful -- unfortunately was not there long enough to need an apt. I would check VRBO or maybe holiday-rentals.co.uk

Yes, we rented a converted fisherman's home in Dinan! Lovely medieval town and area. Rick writes about Dinan and also a very beautiful village just outside & along the river. We found the rental on one of the holiday rental sites. We visited Quimper one Sunday and were a bit disappointed and happy we had chosen Dinan. Also stayed at Les Ajoncs D'or in Pont-aven for four nights for the price of three. It was a nice two star hotel with history and the receptionist was delightful.
