Bremerhaven, Germany

Traveling to Bremerhaven to see the new Immigration Museum there. Looking for a small hotel or Gasthaus and would appreciate any suggestions for this area. We are traveling from the south of Germany and plan to stay one night near Kassel so any suggestions on a place in that area would be great.

We lived in Bremerhaven for about 18 months some years ago and enjoyed it. It is not a typical tourist destination. There was an interesting German Maritime Museum.

  • The Weser River is wide enough at Bremerhaven to make it a deep water port. Some days you can not see across it. North of the city are dikes that hold back the water from the drained, reclaimed lands, and windmills. There is wealth of seabirds and skylarks. The weather coming off the North Sea changes by the hour, take an umbrella even on a sunny day.

  • Cuxhaven is a smaller, more scenic port north of Bremerhaven.

  • Bremerhaven was the largest port for fishing fleets in Europe and there were very good seafood restaurants.

Hope that you enjoy it.
