border of Switerland to Italy

If I purchase the switerland pass either it is the fall special pass or transfer pass.....My wife and I are leaving Interlaken to go to Venice.....will I have to get off at the border of Italy to continue my train ride......or can I purchase it at Interlaken or have to get off at Milan, Italy? Thanks Shawn

You will not have to get off the train. Someone may come through the train while it is traveling and check passports. As far as the train fare, with a Swiss Pass only is good to just over the Swiss border, so you should take care of extra charges at the station in Interlaken. There may be other ways to get a supercheap fare. I'll give an example assuming your train route will be through Brig and the Simplon Tunnel to Milan. Your Swiss Pass is good to the exit from the tunnel at Domodossola. The "ordinary" fare from Domodossola to Milan is 9.40 Eu. That is pretty well set no matter when you go. At Milan, assuming you purchase over the internet from the trenitalia website far in advance (90 days maximum) a "Supereconomy" fare to Venice for 9.00 Eu. There are a limited number of tickets allotted to each train, and when they are sold out, the fare goes to "Economy" up to 19 or 29 EU, when those are sold the fare is "Ordinary Refundable" at 30 or 40 Eu. The "Supereconomy" and "Economy" fares are totally nonrefundable, so make sure your plans are set in stone. If you want to stay flexible, just take care of it at Interlaken station. There is only 1 train a day where you will not have to change trains in Milan.
